Bob Keedwell – Robert Keedwell

The workshop where the magic happened

The Crosbian scale model

Robert “Bob” Keedwell sadly passed away late February 2013. He is sadly missed by all who knew him. It still hurts to think he is no longer with us.

He was a remarkable man, somehow surviving the Second World War as a small boy, with all its perils. One day the German incendiary bombs were dropping around him and his brothers on Hoylake beach on the Wirral. His mother was once found polishing a live incendiary bomb she kept on the mantelpiece, and when it was seen the bomb disposal team were called to clear the area and defuse the bomb.

He was unable to gain a formal education due to the bombing of Liverpool. He left school at 14, then joined Cammel Lairds in Birkenhead as an Apprentice Fitter, and in the evening he studiously attended night school to gain his required qualifications.

He joined the Merchant Navy and through hard work and dedication he rose to rank of Chief Engineer with Ellermans.

A keen photographer and gardener, along with his enormous skills making model boats made him a unique and loved individual with a unique turn of phrase.  The origins are unknown.
